Velocity product assessement in Near Real Time

There is a routing experiment happening in the Gulf of Aden this week to assess new velocity products for routing applications. The red lines represent trajectories of ships crossing the area.The WOC BFN current is processed in Near Real time and compared with other surface velocity products such as GlobCurrent observations or forecasts from models. The velocity product is assessed using data from ships, in-situ drifters and dynamical structures detected in SST and chlorophyll. We are blessed with nice chlorophyll bloom and a low cloud coverage enabling many synoptic analyses using Sentinel-3 SLSTR and OLCI data.
