Natal pulses are trapped eddies formed in the Natal bight that are advected downstream and developing between the South African coastline and the Agulhas current, forcing the Agulhas curent to bend and deviate from its usual location along the shelf break. On this Sentinel-3 OLCI Chlorophyll-a concentration measurement, the center of such eddy is highlighted by its highest concentration and seen propagating westward passing offshore Port Elizabeth. Natal pulse can also trigger Agulhas current early retroflexion into the Antartic Circumpolar Current.
