On January 15, La Reunion Island was placed under an unprecedented Purple alert as Cyclone Belal swept across its northern region, bringing winds exceeding 200km/h, intense rainfall, and anticipated high seas along the coastline. The Sentinel-1 sea surface roughness unmistakably reveals the cyclone's eye situated on the island's eastern side, while the SARAL altimeter indicates elevated wave heights on both sides of the eye.
